By Usman Santuraki,
Shinkafa da Wake (Rice and Bean) is a popular delicacy obtained in almost all households in Nigeria and in politics, it means, the voting of different persons on different political platforms. In Adamawa State, this kind of politics will rear its ugly head in the
coming election that is schedule to commence on the 14 February,
2015. Some people may or are likely to vote General Muhammadu Buhari in the presidential election then vote Malam Nuhu Ribadu at the state level. Others may or are likely to vote in President Goodluck Jonathan, then vote in Senator Bindow Jibrilla as Governor.
For the senatorial election in the state, there are three senatorial zones – Adamawa Central, Adamawa North and Adamawa South. In Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone, the people are much favourably disposed to vote the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, while in Adamawa North, the people are so inclined to vote the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and in Adamawa South, the people are disposed to cast their votes for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
The Shinkafa da Wake syndrome on the presidential election is tilted towards General Muhammadu Buhari because of the insecurity challenges. Quite a lot of people opined that only General Muhammadu Buhari can bring sanity in the insurgency that has ravaged some parts of the North East.
In the gubernatorial election, the people are more disposed to
cast vote for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Malam Nuhu Ribadu for their firm conviction that he is the person that can bring the desired change in the state through the provision of the dividends of democracy.
In the Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone, the people are disposed to the candidature of the aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, because he has proved his worth when he served as a Minister. While in Adamawa North Senatorial Zone, the people are
disposed to go after the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Barrister Bala James Ngillari, who is the incumbent Governor of the state.
In Adamawa South Senatoial Zone, the people are disposed to the candidature of Mr. Benos Yeroe of the People Democratic Movement. This stems from the fact that his tribe of Bachama has never produced the Senator.
The people tagged the coming elections in the state as “Shinkafa da Wake” because of the calibre of people that are vying for the elective offices in this election in the state. Also, some people are disenchanted with stalwarts especially in the main opposition parties like the All Progressives Congress, that is still parading old foxes that still want to come into reckoning and enjoy the crumbs.
The people on the other hand, are craving for positive change to accentuate rapid development and transformation of the state.
Despite all this drama, the people need to shine and open their eyes to elect credible people, who would assiduously work for the good of the people of the state.
