In what appeared to be a political somersault, Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido, who is one of the Peoples Democratic Party’s founding fathers, over the weekend showered encomiums on the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as an honest, trustworthy and patriotic leader.
Governor Lamido stated this while addressing thousands of PDP supporters during the party campaign tour held in Maigatari local government of the state.
Lamido stated that Buhari is an incorruptible person with a high-profile integrity, honesty and national patriotism, adding that he does not have any problems with him.
The governor explained that he only has problems with those who lost relevance in PDP and are now hiding under the Buhari profile, calling PDP all sorts of names.
“Those defectors who were glorified by PDP and after losing relevance left the party because of their selfish interest, we would do everything possible within the law to ensure that they fail despite their hiding under Buhari”.
“Those defectors are not agents of any change; rather, they are just ungrateful and political liabilities,” he said.
Lamido then charged all the people of the state and indeed the country to vote out the defectors from the country’s political system.
The mammoth gathering of PDP members appeared to be happy and smiled when the governor showered praises on the APC presidential candidate. This may not be unconnected with the failure of their party candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan to fulfill all the campaign promises he made to them in 2011.
The PDP members in Jigawa State are not happy with President Jonathan due to his failure to fulfill his 2011 campaign promises to them.
This paper gathered that this may affect his re-election as the party in the state already restricted its campaign to governorship, senatorial, reps and State Assembly.
