The All Progressives Congress has alleged a plot by the Peoples Democratic Party and the President Goodluck Jonathan administration to decapitate the opposition and gain “undue advantage” ahead of the coming elections.

The APC said its leader, former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, and others suspected to be financiers of the party, had been marked for arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on trumped up charges.
Mr. Tinubu seen as the arrowhead of the opposition is to be arrested by the EFCC, on the instruction of Mr. Jonathan “any time from now”, APC said, through its Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, during a press conference in Lagos on Saturday.
“And as part of the offensive against the APC in the days ahead, there is a plan to freeze the accounts of companies, individuals and organisations believed to be financing the party, with the ultimate objective of crippling the party so it won’t be able to sustain its activities, like paying its agents on Election Day and other logistics,” Mr. Mohammed said.
Mr. Mohammed justified his party’s claim with a March 10 statement ascribed to Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido that “all that needs to be done to break the APC is to ‘kidnap’ two of its leaders.”
Mr. Mohammed said Mr. Lamido was apparently referring to Mr. Tinubu and the presidential aspirant of APC, Muhammadu Buhari, just one day after the APC had earlier claimed some of its financiers were billed for arrest.
On the basis of a documentary against Mr. Tinubu, the spokesperson said PDP and the presidency had orchestrated protests to the EFCC.
He said the fresh plot was coming after Mr. Jonathan had realised APC would “definitely” win the 2015 presidential election.
“It is clear that the momentum has swung to the side of our party, with just a little over a week before the Presidential and National Assembly elections,” he said “It is clear that Nigerians have rejected the PDP and have embraced our party, the APC, as the agent of the change that they (Nigerians) so much desire.
“That explains the desperation being exhibited by the PDP-led Jonathan Administration to arrest Asiwaju, whom they see as the arrowhead of the opposition, believing that this will cripple our party and stop the momentum we have gained.”
He denied the establishment of an unregistered radio station by APC leaders to destabilise the polity.
The PDP presidential campaign had alleged that APC leaders set up the radio station to announce parallel results of the elections.
However, Mr. Mohammed maintained, “We state categorically that we have nothing to do with that radio station. We believe strongly that the radio station is the handiwork of the same people who are accusing us of establishing it. Their main reason for setting up the station is simple: To use it as another excuse to clamp down on our leaders.”
