The former captain of Super Falcons, Florence Omagbemi, has joined the technical crew of the U-20 Women National Team called the “Falconets.”
This was contained in a statement signed by the Falconets’ Media Officer, Mr Ejiro Femi-Babafemi, in Abeokuta on Saturday.
NAN reports that Omagbemi was in January appointed the first assistant coach of the junior national side by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Omagbemi arrived in Abeokuta on Friday from the U.S, where she resides and was received by Coach Edwin Okon of the Falconets.
“It is nice to have you with us. I am sure there is no player that is seated here that would not have watched you play for our dear country,” Okon said.
Responding, Omagbemi, who is a member of the organising committee for this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup holding in Azerbiajan in October, apologised for her late arrival.
“I just returned from Zurich, Headquarters of FIFA from a coaching course. However, I want to say a big thank you for receiving me into your fold.
“I am here to work and support my head coach to make sure that we qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Japan this year,” the former Super Falcons captain, said.
Omagbemi represented Nigeria in all the editions of the FIFA Women’s World cup until 2003.
