The Senate today, Thursday October 22 screened Rotimi Amechi, former Governor of Rivers State and a ministerial nominee.
Amechi who had also served as a Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly was the first ministerial nominee to appear before the Senate today. He spent about 50 minutes answering questions from the senators.
On the corruption allegations against him, Amechi said he is not corrupt and he has not been indicted by any court. According to Amechi, he gave his best service to the people of Rivers State.
On why he fought against PDP during the general election, Amechi said he left PDP because of the high level of corruption under Goodluck Jonathan Administration.
He said because Jonathan is not suitable to bring about the desired growth and development Nigerians are yearning for, he decided to declared support for President Muhammadu Buhari who is seen as discipline person.
Other nominees scheduled for screening today include Heineken Lokpobiri (Bayelsa), Cladius Omolleye Daramola (Ondo), Adewole Isaac Folorunso (Osun), Baba Shehuri Mustapha (Borno) and Ocholi Enejo James (Kogi States)
