In this interview with Hon. Ayuba Mohammed Bello Representing Jere Federal Constituency of Borno State said the major problem of the North East region and his constituency is gradually shifting from insurgency to the challenge of rehabilitation and how to tackle the challenge of vulnerable people.
I am Ayuba Mohammed Bello Representing Jere Federal Constituency of Borno State
Borno State some years ago was known as a home of peace but the activities of insurgents in recent years changed this slogan. Do you think normal peace will eventually return to this state?
You want to describe Borno as formally a home of peace but now a home of pieces…
I thank God for His intervention. The state was actually volatile before the election and swearing-in of President Muhammad Buhari. The military intervention since he took over power on Maa 29, 2015 led to the tremendous efforts resulting in peace we have in most parts of Borno and North Eastern States of the country. The state was volatile before but now vulnerable.
The shift from insurgency became possible because of the type of President we now have in the country. President Buhari wants to bring Nigeria back to its feet. By God grace the pieces being talked about will be brought back to peace.
Post insurgency management
Post insurgency management is one of the biggest challenges we face at the moment. Rebuilding of the structures destroyed by insurgents is a very big task that needs the attention of the federal and intentional communities.
One of the areas that still need full attention is the rehabilitation of the “Civilian JTF” which came on board as result of the insurgency. Whatever that has advantages must have disadvantages. These young people fought the insurgents with tooth and nail but now that peace is gradually returning, what do you expect them to be doing? They need to be engaged in fruitful service like enrolling the educated ones among them in the Nigeria Army and other paramilitary outfits like Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps among others.
War against Corruption
I think I need to congratulate Nigeria for voting into power a man like President Buhari. It takes a man of incorruptible mind and integrity to lead such a war against corruption. (Source: Thelegislature.net)
