Suicide bombers at separate time attacked a military checkpoint in Maiduguri, Borno State Capital and Chadian Army Camp.

A security officer at the Kaiga Ngouboua base in the Lake Chad region, said on condition of anonymity, that two suicide bombers blew themselves up outside a Chadian army camp on Wednesday.

The source said the bombers tried to get into the camp, but were pushed back by the guard, so they detonated themselves at the entrance.

The officer said that a suspected accomplice was arrested by the officers at the Kaiga Ngouboua base and nobody, except the bombers, were killed.

Similarly, two male suicide bombers creeping around a military checkpoint at about mid night Tuesday in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, set off the bombs they wore killing a soldier and injuring a young woman, security sources said.
The attack came after nearly four weeks of respite for the troubled city.

Speaking under the condition of anonymity, a witness, who is also commander of the youth vigilante, Civilian-JTF, in Ngomari Area of the city, told journalists that the two suicide bombers were killed instantly, alongside one of the airforce personnel on duty at the checkpoint.

“I was there on duty with the soldiers when the incident happened at about 11 p.m. At that time the curfew hours was getting serious and movements of both vehicles and pedestrians have begun to reduce,” said the Civilian-JTF Commander.

“The soldiers at the security checkpoint at the roundabout that leads to the Airport, saw two men moving from the opposite direction of the airport junction. They got suspicious and invited them to approach them.

“They asked the two men to raise up their hands – one of them complied and the other didn’t, but they kept on moving. We all watched them from a little distance as they inched closer to the soldiers. Then suddenly the suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers went off in thunderous explosion which instantly killed both of them and a soldier, who was a Flight Lieutenant.

“The soldier that was killed was sitting down on the median separator of the highway under a street lamp pole, chatting with a young lady that he stopped when she was seen trekking home minutes before the blast. He was hit by a metal which killed him instantly, while the young lady sustained serious injury in her arm and is currently hospitalised”
