Following rumours of a plot by the Kaduna State Government to impose curfew on or before Election Day, the All Progressive Congress Governorship candidate, Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday said his supporters will defy the curfew if imposed.
Mr. El-Rufai said nobody has the right to restrict their movement or impose a curfew for no just cause as it is against the fundamental human rights of the citizens.
Speaking to journalists shortly after holding a meeting with all party contestants in the state, Mr. El-Rufai said the APC members are not afraid of anybody who may want to intimidate them.
“We will defy any curfew imposed in the state because nobody can intimidate us. We are aware that they are planning to impose a curfew on election day so as to rig the election. We don’t care who you are and we can’t be intimidated by anybody.
“No IG or army commander can take away our rights. If they go ahead to impose the curfew on election day we will make sure we call on our supporters to defy the curfew and come out to defend their votes,” he said.
The governorship candidate urged security agents, police and Army not to allow themselves be used by the ruling party to deny the citizens the right to cast their votes.
He also described the call for electorates to leave the polling units after casting their votes as illegal, saying there is no law banning electorates from staying at the polling units.
Mr. El-Rufai urged his party supporters to remain at their polling units to defend their votes until closing hours.
“We will wait there and have our dinner after casting our votes until our leader Muhammadu Buhari is declared winner of the election onMarch 28 God willing. We refuse to be intimidated and nobody can scare us,” he said.
Mr. El-Rufai added that President Goodluck Jonathan is a complete failure and doesn’t care about the well-being of the citizens.
He urged Nigerians to ensure they vote out PDP or remain slaves in their own country.
